Georgia Farmer's MarketSummer is in full swing and so is the fresh produce! Georgia has a lot of farmer’s markets and we thought we would highlight a few of those close to our area. We’d love to hear of your favorite farmer’s market in the comments below!

The Alpharetta Farmers Market in Fulton County, in Alpharetta has a lot to offer both locals and out of town visitors. With the Dog Daze of Summer event, which highlights a doggie fashion parade, watermelon-eating contest, free hotdogs, and of course live entertainment. Then later on they also have a Christmas Market, the first Sunday of December that culminates with the lighting of the Alpharetta tree lighting festivities. Those of course are just the special events offered by the farmers market, the rest of the selling year runs from April to October every year. During this time you can find fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, home grown meats, and a wide assortment of baked goods. They also offer up live entertainment weekly.

Another great little farmers market in Fulton County is Atlanta Locally Grown. Atlanta Locally Grown is a little bit different from your typical farmers market. In fact they advertise their products online allowing you to shop from the cool comfort of your home or office and then pick up your products on Saturday. Locations right now for pickup are at Piedmont Green Market and The Sandy Springs Farmers market. While this is a little bit different than the traditional farmers market it works for those with a busy lifestyle who still want fresh fruits and locally grown vegetables but may not have time to walk thru the actual physical markets.

For those in Atlanta who are looking for a more traditional farmers market there is the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market. Events that they put on include the Peach Jam Cobbler Competition; they are open from April until December on Thursdays from 4-8pm. There are a lot of smaller markets that are locally run and owned in Fulton County Georgia as well.

While in Jonesboro, Georgia the Farmer’s Markets may not be as fancy as the big city farmers markets, Clayton County still has a lot to offer in the way of fresh home grown fruits and vegetable, farm raised meats, canned goods, and baked goods. Close to Jonesboro is the Atlanta State Farmer’s Market which is held in Forest Park, GA. First opened in 1958, the Atlanta Market is still considered one of the largest of its kind in the world with 150 acres of booths and stalls! Open all year round except for Christmas day – it’s still advised to get there early if you are attending on a Saturday as typically vendors will leave around noon time.

FINAL DAY ANNOUNCED FOR BRINGING
‘TOYS FOR TOTS’ TO BULLARD OFFICES

toys for tots, toys for tots drop off locationMonday, Dec. 19, is the deadline for bringing in contributions for the annual U. S. Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” campaign to Coldwell Banker Bullard Realty organization offices.

The Coldwell Banker Bullard organization and its affiliated companies, Coldwell Banker Commercial Bullard and Coldwell Banker American Land Mart, have already begun accepting contributions. This marks the 30th year that the Bullard organization has provided its offices as drop-off points for the campaign.

Jon D. Morris, broker of the Bullard’s REO Department, is coordinating the project for the company.

The real estate organization’s offices are serving only as collection points and will not distribute toys, as this is done through local churches, local Department of Family and Children Services offices, or the Marines.

Area residents wanting to contribute can drop off new, unwrapped toys at a Coldwell Banker Bullard office, Coldwell Banker American Land Mart, Coldwell Banker Commercial Bullard, or one of the other collection points, and the Marines will take care of the rest, distributing the toys to needy children through local charitable organizations. The website address for the campaign in the Atlanta area is www.atlantatoysfortots.com.

For those persons preferring to contribute money to the campaign, a check made out to “Marine Toys for Tots Foundation” will be accepted. Cash donations will help the Marines buy toys at deeply discounted prices, and donations to this non-profit organization are 100 percent tax deductible.
